Most of us can probably agree that 2020 will be a year we will never forget with so many things happening on a national and global level. Between the COVID pandemic that started nearly a year ago, major storms across the country, wildfires that have ravaged parts of our country, as well as other struggles we have each had on different levels, we can probably all agree that we are looking forward to this new year ahead of us. But as we look back to last year, we can reflect on the many areas in our lives where we can be thankful for coming through it successfully.

As a company, we are very thankful to all our employees that have continued to press on towards the goal of offering outstanding service to our customers. We have come through a very difficult season and all of us have been under a lot of pressure both at home and in the workplace getting loads delivered safely. Our associates at FirstFleet have done an outstanding job getting through this latest surge.

FirstFleet would like to say thank you to all of you that have continued to work with us to make 2020 a great year, despite the challenges faced. To show our appreciation, all full-time employees will be receiving a $500 bonus to be paid this coming Monday. Part-time associates will receive $250 on Monday as well.

We do appreciate all you do every day to make FirstFleet the company it is today. Keep up the great work!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays 2020

As we approach Christmas and the holiday season, we would like to take this moment to say thank you to our employees. We have endured several losses this year of operations personnel, drivers, our founding father, and most importantly family members. We want to keep these families in our thoughts and prayers as we go through these holiday times. We have endured a global pandemic while at the same time having record loads hauled per week keeping the public supplied with groceries, bread, and paper products. We were able to transition our entire fleet of 3000 trucks to a new in-cab devices and complete 3 start-ups! I have never been more proud to work for this company than in this year.

On our 30th anniversary 4 years ago, many of our employees identified 5 core values that made FirstFleet stand out. They are:

Safely deliver outstanding service
Empower our people to do the right thing
Relationships will be built on trust
Value, care for, and respect everyone
Embrace change as a reality of progress

It has been wonderful to see each of those values lived out during this stressful year. Through all of the struggles that 2020 has brought, these values were tested more than ever. And I witnessed them being lived out in each person I worked with this year. I hope you have seen the same.

We at FirstFleet would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every employee for their dedicated work over the last 6-8 weeks. Each FirstFleet site has had unique challenges in meeting the demands of our customers as we have worked through this COVID-19 crisis.

Our drivers have put in many extra hours to handle the heavy volume. Our drivers have gone and helped other facilities who had extra heavy volume or volume that was transferred. Our mechanics have worked tirelessly to make sure the equipment is well maintained. Our managers and supervisors have worked long hours to make sure our routes were covered and moving. We want to also thank our support teams in Murfreesboro for helping our sites with safety supplies and keeping the sites cared for.

This crisis is not over, and we still have work to do to maintain safety for our employees and to continue to deliver outstanding service. We are confident that the team we have around the country is up to the challenge.

As a token of our thanks, each full time employee who has worked the last 6-8 weeks will have an extra payroll deposit in their account on Monday of $500. Part time employees will receive a $250 payroll deposit on Monday. Keep up the good work!

COVID-19 Update

In response to the recent rise of the flu and also the potential outbreak of the Coronavirus, FirstFleet has put together a few preventive measures we would like each employee to consider. We want to protect and be considerate of each of our employees and make the extra effort to keep everyone healthy working at FirstFleet.

Individual:

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Use your elbow if no tissue is available.

Truck:

We are asking that our physical sites increase the frequency of cleaning the office with an emphasis on wiping down frequently touched areas.
Make sure we have any adequate supply of tissue, hand sanitizer, and cleaning supplies.
We are asking drivers to help wipe down the steering wheels and frequently touched areas to help reduce germs.

Reporting:

If you feel ill – especially with a fever above 100.4 F or greater using an oral thermometer, mild to severe cough and difficulty breathing based on the CDC’s current guidelines – you should seek medical attention as soon as possible. If you become ill at work, immediately notify your supervisor and seek medical attention. If you are unable to report to work due to your illness, follow your site’s regular notification processes to report that you are unable to come to work and, again, it is recommended that you seek medical attention.

Associates are requested to provide a return to work note if they have been absent for an illness which includes respiratory symptoms, fever 100.4 F or greater, cough, shortness of breath and/or breathing difficulties.

If an associate has been in close contact (approximately 6 feet/1.8 meters or less) with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, they should report exposure to their Supervisor.

If an Associate has traveled to any of the countries on the CDC’s restricted travel list they should report their travel to their supervisor.

Next Steps:

Out of an abundance of caution for our Drivers and Trainers we are temporarily postponing our Spring Driver Safety Meetings scheduled thru Sunday March 29^th. During this time we will continue to monitor the effects of the Coronavirus in our communities and identify alternative dates.

As FirstFleet continues to monitor this situation we will continue to communicate with you as additional details emerge. In the meantime, the CDC has set up a website to provide information as soon as it becomes available at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html.

Veterans Day 2016

On November 11, 1919 President Woodrow Wilson issued the following statement regarding what was to be known as National Armistice Day and later Veterans Day.

To us in America the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with - solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service, and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of nations.

This statement could not be more true today as we remember and honor those who have served in our Armed Forces. FirstFleet is proud to join with our fellow Americans in communicating our debt of gratitude to the countless men and women who have served and sacrificed for the sake of freedom.

Eleanor Roosevelt once said: Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being. With freedom comes responsibility. To Veterans reading this message we commend you for honoring the freedom that many have paid a great price for. We are proud of you and your service.

Today we celebrate the arrival of a new year. Events like this are often a cause for reflection of the previous season and hopeful anticipation of the next. 2015 was a wonderful year for FirstFleet in many ways. We welcomed many new members to our team and grew the footprint of the organization into new horizons thanks to the hard work and dedication of the entire organization.

You should be proud of the work you have invested and the company we are building together. Our shipping partners are a critical part of our nation's economy and you have served them well by providing consistent and professional service. Thank you for the integrity you have in your daily tasks.

Looking forward we are hopeful and excited for all that 2016 will bring. To begin with 2016 marks the 30th year of business for FirstFleet! Founded in 1986 with the idea of delivering unwavering customer service we have remained committed to that original vision and it continues to serve as the platform for new business development.

Another exciting point to discuss for 2016 are the initiatives that are going into effect 1/1/2016 surrounding PTO, Vacation, 401k contribution and others which came out of discovery conversations and surveys with our driver community. The first 10 months of this year have brought about many conversations with FirstFleet’s driver population. These have been through driver safety meetings, online driver surveys and general discussions in driver breakfast meetings. These conversations have centered around the company’s desire to acknowledge and meet every employee’s hopes and desires for the best workplace for everyone. These interactions have helped us greatly in this process and we are grateful for the feedback you have provided.

FirstFleet was founded on the principle of being a dedicated carrier with service that is second to none. We recognize that our driver community is on the front lines of this mission, and we are grateful for your service to our customers. It is our desire to be an employer of choice, and we understand that meeting this goal requires adjustments from time to time.

There are many exciting new changes in the works to start January 1, 2016, but today I want to bring your attention to several of the specific items that will be changing.

Low Cost Insurance - We are nearing the end of open enrollment. This year you are presented with a very low cost option for managing your health costs through the HDHP plan which includes a FirstFleet funded Health Savings Account. Open enrollment ends 10/31 - please be sure to evaluate this option for your health needs.
Benefits Waiting Period - As of January 1, 2016 the waiting period for all benefits will be reduced to the 1st day of the month following only 30 days of employment.
Paid Time Off (PTO) is a big deal. We will be implementing 5 paid days off based on the length of service with FirstFleet.
Vacation Pay Out - Should you find yourself at the end of a year with vacation balances we don't want that to go unused. A cash out program will be formalized that defines how all full time employees may participate.
401K Match – Beginning January 1, 2016 we will be implementing a percentage employer match for all employees. Additional Details Here - Need to Enroll? Click Here
Wingman Parameter Adjustment - We recognize the value of this device, but based on your feedback we see opportunity to adjust the intervals of alert and reduce the "noise" factor associated with it. Adjustments are in process now.
Truck Spec Changes- Upgraded seats and upgraded mattresses on the latest new truck order and going forward.

We have many other areas we are looking at to add or make better that are not on this list. You will be receiving more information in near future.

National Truck Driver Appreciation

The week of September 13-19 is set aside as National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. The 3.4 million truck drivers on our national highways are a vital part of America’s economy and stability. We are afforded the opportunity to move goods from one end of this great country to the other thanks to the men and women who pilot them. It is this movement of goods that drives our economy in critical ways.

Not only are these men and women keeping America moving, but overwhelmingly they are moving the goods with safety, professionalism and a wonderful sense of pride in their work. FirstFleet is proud to employ thousands of the best drivers in the business, and we are grateful to be associated with this industry.

The life of a professional driver can be challenging in many ways. Long hours, stress and time away from home and family are sacrifices that every truck driver knows quite well. Despite these sacrifices our country is serviced tirelessly by these dedicated men and women who wake up every day with the realization that their work matters, and it is something to be proud of.

For FirstFleet drivers reading this blog we are grateful for your service and dedication to the needs of our customers. We realize that life does not stop this week, and that there is great possibility you are reading this away from your home. Remembering 9.11

There is little doubt that most of you reading this message will recall exactly where you were when 9.11 took on new meaning in American vocabulary. Fourteen years ago today America became the victim of a tragic attack which lead to the loss of nearly 3,000 innocent lives. In the years that have passed we have continued to see the effects that these and other attacks have had on our lives and the lives of those intimately connected to September 11, 2001.

Today we remember these losses and honor those who have answered the call of their country in one way or another. The freedoms we enjoy were not won without great sacrifice, and they will not endure without the continued service of those willing to defend them. We live in the greatest country in the world, with freedom of choice beyond what most could ever imagine, and a great debt of gratitude is due to those who make it possible.

Wherever you find yourself today I encourage you to remember the common thread you have with nearly every person you will come in contact with. We are collectively citizens of the United States of America, and when that fact is realized unity and strength will emerge.

Veterans Day is a day set aside to honor and celebrate the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. At FirstFleet we are thankful for the sacrifices that so many of our countrymen have made in the name of freedom.

Since the beginning of this great nation our men and women have fought tirelessly for the defense of our freedoms and the liberation of those who are oppressed. The United States flag flies today as a symbol of freedom and hope because these brave individuals answered the call of their country.

At FirstFleet we recognize that a great debt of gratitude is owed to our military, and that the liberties we enjoy every day are not without great cost. National Driver Appreciation Week

Each year the American Trucking Association sets aside a week in September to celebrate and honor those that service our country by moving the goods our nation depends upon. There are approximately 3.2 million professional truck drivers in our country and this week we celebrate and honor those who work in this profession.

The Professional Truck Driver of today faces many challenges with changing regulations, equipment specifications, environmental implications and a host of other concerns that require their full attention. The Professional Drivers that travel up and down our highways are a dedicated and hardworking group of men and women who take great pride in doing their jobs well. Their jobs are not easy by any stretch of the imagination, and we recognize that this group of individuals is consistently putting forth the time and energy to service our country well.

At FirstFleet we are proud to recognize that we employ the best in the business. We believe that we have the hardest working, safest, and most professional team in the country. Each of the nearly 2300 drivers we employ gives their best to the mission of our company. We desire to be a dedicated carrier who is dedicated to customer service. Our drivers make this mission possible, and we thank you for that investment. The consistent service you deliver to our customers and the professionalism you demonstrate on the highways is essential to the success of our mission.

We pause today to remember a day in American history that will be etched in our memories for the balance of our days. I am sure each of you can recall where you were thirteen years ago when you first learned of the attacks on American soil and the following days of turmoil. For those who watched this from the safe distance of our televisions to those that were at ground zero the impact was felt throughout our nation.

That day reminded us of who we are as a people, and that the freedoms we enjoy are gifts we have inherited - and are obligated to defend. We saw that day bring forth great heroes, those that were willing to exchange their lives for the life of another as they worked tirelessly to rescue and care for the wounded. That event also welcomed the introduction of a new generation of national pride and those willing to enlist in the defense of our freedoms. September 11, 2001 is a hallowed reminder that the country we love is ours and ours alone to care for.

Today we grieve with those who lost loved ones in the tragedy, and we grieve with the family of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the protection of our nation. Today we celebrate the honor and pride that we carry as citizens of the greatest country on earth, and we extend a heartfelt thanks to those at home and abroad who are ever watchful for the protection of our people.

Let Freedom Ring

Today Americans celebrate the freedoms we enjoy as citizens of this great country. As Americans we enjoy a great number of freedoms that many in this world have never known the taste of: to speak our mind with liberty, to vote with conscience, and to be a country governed of the people, by the people and for the people.

These rights and privileges granted to us by so many who have gone before and set the foundations of this great nation are to be celebrated and respected. Our nation sets this day aside to remember and rejoice.

Last year we quoted John Adams ... this year we finish that same quotation with the reality that this freedom is not free; there has and will continue to be cost associated with it's defense.

President Adams writing to his wife:

You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means.

It is our great hope that wherever you find yourself today that you are able to celebrate. Some will be on the road, others will be at home, but all are free. Thanks to the convictions of our founding fathers and the dedication of countless others we are free. We are thankful for so many who have served our country and we extend gratitude to each of you today for your service.

This week marks the American Trucking Association’s truck driver appreciation week. The week of September 15-21 is set aside to celebrate and honor the efforts of America’s 3.1 million professional truck drivers.

Our country has the great privilege of being able to ship goods any place at pretty much any time, and this is largely because of the dedicated and hardworking professional truck drivers we are honoring this week.

A professional truck driver leads a life that is very different than many other occupations. They are typically on the road with regularity and often have to spend time away from their family as they service the companies they work for and the economy they support. It is estimated that in the last year these drivers travelled nearly 400 billion miles, and the vast majority of these miles were safely travelled with great professionalism.

The drivers at FirstFleet are truly the best in the business. Many of our drivers have been working with us for decades with impeccable safety and performance records, and we are truly grateful for each team member that has chosen to make FirstFleet their place of employment.

Remembering 9/11

Twelve years ago today America suffered a great attack - an attack on American soil that resulted in the suffering of an untold number of families around the globe. This attack was not just an attack on innocent citizens, this was an attack on the values and principals of the American people. For centuries this country has stood strong as a beacon of hope and freedom. When the American flag waves it stands for liberation and opportunity to the oppressed and restricted.

In the years that have passed we have seen our country ever more resolute that freedom must be defended, and at every corner it will be threatened. Freedom for our nation and others has come at a great cost. Many men and women serving in our military have selflessly given their lives, hopes and dreams in exchange for the endurance of our nation and the liberation of others.

Today we remember the lives that were lost that fateful day in September 2001; we honor and thank those who served or are serving around the globe to keep hope alive, and we challenge ourselves to recognize the privilege that has been given to us by the actions of others.

Independence Day

Today we celebrate with each of you our great nation’s independence. The freedoms and opportunities we enjoy as Americans exist because of the hard work, sacrifice and dedication of countless individuals. We are grateful for those individuals.

Two hundred and thirty seven years ago a group of individuals forged a new future when they gathered to declare that America would be the land of the free. Our second President, John Adams is quoted as saying:

This day will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.

It is our hope that this day will bring celebration for you and your family as you reflect upon the blessings of this nation, and that from one end of the continent to the other the great anniversary festival will be celebrated.

The holiday season is a time to gather with family and friends to reflect upon the blessings in our lives. If I were to pause and ask each of you for one thing you were thankful for I am certain we could fill this page with thoughts of children, grandchildren, health, friends, freedom and countless other examples of things you hold dear.

As a company we are grateful this Christmas for our business partners and the dedicated team of hard-working individuals that support this organization. We are blessed to be in longstanding business relationships with some of the best companies in this country, and the commitment and quality of our supporting employee base is second to none. We are who we are because of these two groups of people.

Coming Soon - Electronic Logs!

We are excited to announce the implementation of electronic logs for FirstFleet. You may hear QHOS (Qualcomm Hours of Service) is coming to your fleet. The CSA program is a government program that is designed to level the playing field by providing good visibility into a carrier’s safety performance – in relation to their peers. This program provides clear access into what was once lost in the details of a safe stat score.

FirstFleet wants to be a leader in our industry and is deploying the electronic hours of service solution to replace the paper log process. This will help to protect our industry leading safety position and improve our companies CSA scores. This process is being rolled out now to the majority of our fleet that is currently equipped with capable in cab devices. This transition will take place over the next 6 months for all tractors that are currently equipped with a Qualcomm unit.

Here are a few benefits to using electronic logs:

Easier to manage than paper
To the minute logging = more drive time
Driver are always aware of their available hours
Dispatch is aware of a drivers available hours

We are currently live with 425 units!

This week is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. Many people do not know or understand the amount of time a Professional Driver invests in their profession. The demands or a Professional Driver's schedule often do not fit into the conventional 8-5 workday. It is not uncommon for a Professional Driver to begin their day between 10:00 PM and 2:00 AM. Many drivers work 11-14 hours a day and might invest as many as 60-70 hours per week in their career.

FirstFleet is a carrier that is dedicated to meeting the needs of our business partners with excellence. Much of meeting this challenge is supported by our hard working Professional Driver community. Our Professional Drivers are a primary means of interaction with our business partners, and we are grateful for each individual who has joined our team. This week is set aside to honor and celebrate the nearly 2,000 Professional Drivers that support the core of our business.

Thank you for the professional manner in which you conduct yourself, for representing the organization well and for the hours you continually invest in meeting the challenges you are given.
